the dominant instrument (the cello and wind instruments would also be important). In any case, I didn't want anything bigger than a chamber orchestra, 10 to 15 musicians at most. I heard a simple but deep, powerful, melodic music using all the resources of the instruments. The music was composed over a twelve month period (which is exceptional in the movie industry) and intimately linked to the adaptation itself. Several pieces influenced the editing of entire sequences, sometimes playing a narrative role.

First we wanted to record the music simply for itself, independently of the necessities of the film, each piece as a whole. The recordings specific to the movie were produced afterwards. The compact disc reflects this state of mind.

We were able to unite a few of the best French soloists. All are leading musicians, virtuosos of their instruments but also very creative, imaginative and inspired in their playing. Cairn Gutlerner, who directs them and plays the piano, has an extraordinary sense of image and she has succeed in capturing the particular and inspiring "little music" of the diary ".
